Inside the Exhibition

The Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes is the venue for an exhibition of work by artists, photographers and sculptors that has been inspired by the Yorkshire Dales. The exhibition runs until June 30.

Works by fourteen artists have been on show since early last month.

A mix of works on display.

And more.

Brian's 'On Carperby Pond' is on the wall in this photo.

Andrea Hunter explains how she constructs her felt pictures by working with fine layers of wool as if it were paint. Her website is here.

Exhibition Open

Rodney Tennant, well known auctioneer from Leyburn, was the guest speaker at the opening of the 'UNTITLED' exhibition in the Dales Countryside Museum, Hawes. He told some good stories about artwork coming into his saleroom and praised the landscape of the Dales which he knows very well. Over 150 people were present for the opening.

In the photo above (L-R) are Ruth Addinall (sculptor, painter and piano teacher from Gilmerton in Edinburgh, website here), Brian Alderman, Lesley Tennant (Rodney's wife, originally from Toronto), Rodney Tennant (chairman of Tennants Auctioneers of Leyburn), and Fiona Rosher (museum manager, the Dales Countryside Museum).

The exhibition has seen good coverage in the local press, and that has helped boost the numbers who have visited.

Brian says, "Almost everybody has great things to say about what they see and the visitors' book is filling up nicely. "

Above: Ruth  and Fiona with Piers Browne, a highly respected painter of the Dales, see here. He is author of The Glorious Trees of Great Britain.

The exhibition runs until June 30.

Gallery Repainted

Brian's gallery in Burtersett has had a freshen up, with new paint on the walls, over the winter months. The walls are now in Farrow and Ball's shade 'Stone Blue' (see here) which Brian says is restful yet warm and it gives the gallery more of a sense of space. It matches the colour used in the new Scottish Colourists' room at the Kelvingrove Art Galleries in Glasgow!

From Easter, the gallery will be open Sunday to Wednesday, 11am to 4pm. Currently, during the winter months, the gallery has been open just on weekends, 1-4pm.

Winter Opening Times

The Burtersett Gallery is open at weekends Saturday and Sunday from 1 pm until 4 pm, until the beginning of April.

Brian writes, "The rest of the time I'm here anyway in case anyone calls in, as I'm very busy painting canvases for our important exhibition in Wensleydale in the summer, late April to early July."

More about this exhibition will follow.

The cats, especially Tommy, seem to like the snow!

Not so, the hens! These photos were taken after the heavy snowfall on January 21.
